Founded in 1979 in the heart of Zamalek, Cairo, Mamlouk is a third-generation arts and crafts store built on a legacy of skill and storytelling. What began as a small workshop has grown into a vibrant space that celebrates Egyptian handcrafts passed down through families, while championing artisans from across the Middle East. From hand-painted ceramics to brassware and inlay, every piece in Mamlouk carries the touch of tradition and the story of its maker. More than a shop, it’s a living archive — a place to connect with craft, culture, and the people who keep these traditions alive. The in-store experience is part treasure hunt, part souk — a joyful mix of discovery and surprise. We wanted that spirit to flow through the brand identity. The cobalt-blue tiles that frame the shop’s facade became a central design element, reimagined in bold patterns and a vibrant palette. A vintage-inspired typeface nods to the era of Mamlouk’s founding, balancing heritage with a fresh, playful energy. The result is a visual system that feels both timeless and contemporary, just like the pieces on its shelves. I led the development the brand identity and strategy, as well as capturing Mamlouk’s essence through photography and videography of the store, its artisans, and its work.
